That is me, standing next to my work in the souvenir shop of Northern Lights Ranch in Levi, Finnish Lapland.
This season, 30 guests picked up one of my art blocks and took a piece of Lapland home with them. Thirty people who came for the Northern Lights, the snow, the silence and left with one of my illustrations in their bag. That does not get old.
Four years at Northern Lights Ranch
Northern Lights Ranch is not a new partnership. I have been selling my Lapland 8 Seasons art blocks there for four consecutive seasons. Every season, the full collection of eight seasons is available in their shop: from the first snow in November to the deep cold of January, and all the way through to the midnight sun and Ruska in autumn.
Across the four-season partnership, that adds up to close to a hundred art blocks — between twenty and thirty sold every season.
The ranch also has my work hanging in the skyview cabins. I created illustrations specifically to match the atmosphere of those spaces. It is one thing to sell a souvenir. It is another to have your illustrations become part of the interior of a place like that.
About the Lapland 8 Seasons art blocks
The Lapland 8 Seasons collection is based on the eight seasons recognised by the Sámi. There are not four, but eight distinct moments in the northern year. Each illustration captures one of those moments: the pink light of a frosty morning, the green reflection of the Northern Lights on water, the absolute stillness of sub-zero winter.
The art blocks are free-standing clear acrylic, 10x10 cm, 2.5 cm thick and hand polished for a crystal-clear finish. The illustration is printed on the back with a white backing, which gives the image real depth when you look at it from the front. Compact enough to fit in a suitcase. Solid enough to last.
